The month of September is now upon us, and we have a number of events coming up.

The Rev. Joel Dingman, our Ministry Developer, has been named to a new position by Bp. Smylie and Joel will no longer be worshiping with us on a monthly basis.  On Thursday, September 13, at 6:00, we will have a time to share with Joel and Nancy what their ministry with us has meant.  A meat dish will be provided and we are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share in a pot luck meal.  We plan to close the evening with Compline.

It won't be long before the work of replacing the roof on the church begins.  During the first week of September, the pews and the rest of the furniture in the church will be moved into the parish hall.  This is where we will worship, have coffee hour, and our various meetings until the roof work is completed.

Members of the Commission on Ministry [COM] will come to Good Shepherd on Thursday, September 27.    They will be here to interview Steve Christy, to share in a pot luck meal at 6:00, and then to visit with the congregation.  This is a meeting that is a part of Steve's journey toward ordination as a priest for Good Shepherd.

Daughters of the King [DOK] will begin meeting again on Monday, September 17.  We have been meeting in the home of one of our members recently, and this will likely continue.  DOK is a women's order of the Episcopal Church and its focus is prayer, study and evangelism.  Women of the church are encouraged to investigate if this is an organization for them.  For answers to your questions, visit with president Marcie Cliver or with the Rev. JoAnne Moore.

Plans are being made for a combined Worship service with Christ Church in Newcastle.  More details will follow later in the month.

May 2012

Because of several circumstances, our monthly First Friday Sing at the Nursing Home is no longer monthly. However, we do sing this Friday, May 11, at 10:00. The next scheduled time is the first Friday of July. This month of May has some of the regular monthly events, such as Sewing on Monday, May 14 at 9:00 am and Daughters of the King [DOK] on Monday, May 21 at 7:00 pm. Even if it is hard to believe that the church year is moving on so quickly, Pentecost Sunday is the last Sunday of May - the 27th. I imagine there will be red balloons again - just like in years past. Plan to join us and if you can, wear red. As always, the monthly newsletter will be published on the last Monday of the month - in May, it will be on the 28th. Some newsletters are sent via email; others are sent via the postal service. If you would like to be on either of the mailing lists, contact the editor, The Rev. JoAnne Moore. The church mailing address is Post Office Box 246, Sundance, WY 82729.

Holy Week and April

April 1 is Palm Sunday. The Liturgy of the Palms and the Liturgy of the Passion are included in this day's worship, along with Holy Eucharist.

On Thursday evening, the 5th, at 6:00, we will share in a light supper, then the Maundy Thursday service with Holy Eucharist - followed by the ritual of stripping the altar in preparation for Good Friday.

On Friday, April 6th, the Good Friday service begins at 12 noon and Stations of the Cross will follow.

Sunday, April 8 is Easter Day. Our service begins at 9:30.

Other activities in April will include an April 29th combined Holy Eucharist service with Christ Church of Newcastle. Members from Christ Church will join us at Good Shepherd at 11:00 for Holy Eucharist and a potluck barbecue to follow. Be assured, a 9:30 Morning Prayer service will also be read on the 29th.

Correction

Some changes are in place for our Lenten Soup Suppers. After our first supper last evening, it was decided that we will put off the 'Harvesting Hope' discussions for at least a couple of weeks. The plan now is to concentrate on the meanings behind some of our hymns designated for Lent. Last night, we visited 'Forty Days and Forty Nights'. Join us next week as we discuss another hymn. All are welcome at 6:00 pm on Thursday evenings during Lent.

March Happenings

After a somewhat busy February, we look forward to a Lenten season filled with slow times, prayer and study. Our annual Soup Suppers begin on Thursday, March 1 at 6:00 pm. We will continue on consecutive Thursdays - 8, 15, 22, and 29 - at 6:00 each time. In addition to wonderful soups provided by our Good Shepherd cooks, we will study 'Harvesting Hope', our Bishop's Strategic Plan for the diocese. The evening will close with worship led by various worship leaders of the congregation.

The monthly Sewing time will be on Monday, March 12 beginning at 9:00. For a new project, we will make 'pillowcase dresses'.

Daughters of the King plan to meet on Monday, March 19 at 7:00.

Due to unexpected circumstances, we have discontinued the monthly First Friday singing time at the Long Term Care in Sundance. Now scheduled are sing times on Friday, May 4th, Friday July 6th, and Friday, December 7th.
