To see activities for December, and to see what happened in November.

In the past --

In November, Good Shepherd parishioners joined with the students of Bear Lodge High School to prepare, and then eat together, a Thanksgiving meal in the church parish hall. A new roof was placed on the parish hall - with thanks to the Foundation of the Episcopal Church of Wyoming for the grant we received. The church ladies continued to sew dolls, tote bags, and pillows that will be used as gifts for orphaned children in Belize, donated to the Long Term Nursing Care for their annual Christmas sale, donated to the YES House in Gillette, and donated to the Crook County Family Violence center. The church also continues to support the Sundance Ministerial Association with regular and special monetary donations.

Time passes --

How did it get to be December 8th already? The November activities at Good Shepherd are over and done and now we are on to December. Our first Advent Soup Supper had eleven in attendance. Julie made some delicious soup, Steve proudly served the bread he had made, and Phyllis 'topped off' the meal with an amazing dessert. We thought we should run around the block after this sumptious meal, but instead we gathered around the piano and sang Christmas carols. This Thursday evening at 5:30 we again meet for our Soup Supper and then we will share Advent / Christmas poetry. On Thursday, December 16, once again it is a Soup Supper and then sharing of Christmas stories. The next day, Friday, we will sing at the library during their annual Open House. Christmas Eve service begins at 5:30 pm for Lessons and Carols, Candles and Holy Eucharist. All are welcome come worship with us.

We are into the last week of October already. Good Shepherd parishioners and the students and staff of Bear Lodge High School will enjoy an ice cream and cake social this Thursday, the 28th, at 2:30 in the parish hall. On Sunday, the 31st, Morning Prayer will be read. Our new bishop, the Rt. Revd. John S. Smylie, will be at Good Shepherd for his visitation on the first weekend of November. Included in the weekend will be a soup supper on Saturday night with music and visiting with Bishop John, and on Sunday he will preside and preach. The Sundance Bell Choir will play for us at 9:00 - before church. After worship, brunch will be served and enjoyed before we say 'goodbye for now' to Bishop John.

October has arrived

Since it is October, that means the Diocesan Convention can't be too far off. In fact it is held this week in Laramie on the 7th through the 10th. This means that instead of Holy Eucharist on the 10th, which is the 2nd Sunday of the month, Morning Prayer will be read. Our church delegates to convention are Julia and Steve Christy; JoAnne will be attending as well.
We are already planning for the official Visitation of our new bishop, the Rt. Revd. John S. Smylie. He will be in Sundance from Friday, November 5th through services and coffee hour on Sunday, November 7th. There will be several times for people of the parish to visit with him, to get to know him, and to hear of his plans, hopes and desires for our diocese. Maybe we will even hear him play his guitar and lead us in some singing on Saturday evening!

Good intentions

The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Sundance, WY blog is only as good as what is posted and how often. Unfortunately, the blogger hasn't been doing very well in this regard recently.
The members of the church today watched as two 'Wyoming' Blue Spruce trees were planted as memorial trees. Specifically named in memory were Ron Watson, Straitor Clark, Chuck Wilson and Margaret Beagle. In addition, members were reminded to recall others of the church community who have gone on before us.
Also planted was the Russian sage plant given to the church by newly consecrated Bishop John S. Smylie and his wife Jill at the consecration in Casper on July 31, 2010. Following the planting - with sunshine and cool winds - the congregation enjoyed a potluck luncheon featuring barbecued hamburgers and a selection of salads. A good time was had by all.

Upcoming events for Good Shepherd include a Memorial Service for Blanche B. Hudson this Saturday, the 10th, at 11:00 at the church. Mrs. Hudson and her husband, Dr. G. R. Hudson, lived in Sundance for several years around 1960. She is remembered as a good hostess and cook, an avid bridge player and reader. A luncheon for the family willl follow the service.

As usual, the monthly sewing day will be on the Monday after the first Eucharist of the month, which means that this month we will meet together on Monday, July 12 at 9:00. Our plan is to complete the school uniforms for the school in Belize and perhaps start again on dolls and / or pillows. All are encouraged to attend and sew, cut, stuff, and / or visit.

Holy Trinity, Gillette, will be celebrating their 100 year anniversary this Sunday, the 11th, and all are welcome to attend the 10:00 Eucharist. If unable to attend worship, there will be a carry-in luncheon on the front lawn and we are assured that attendance at the luncheon is just fine.

1928 Morning Prayer on Sunday, July 4th. If you feel so inclined, come in old-fashioned clothes. We might even take a picture!
